    The University of Kentucky uses the iPassConnect service as an international remote access solution to the University. Before downloading or installing iPassConnect to your computer, you will need the following:

    • A new iPassConnect Account
    • A valid Exchange Account

    To obtain an iPassConnect Account, you will need fill out and submit Communications and Networking Services iPassConnect Account Online Order Form (http://www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/forms/contact.html). You will be contacted by Communications and Networking Services personnel with your iPassConnect Account information.

    For more information about your Exchange account, please see the Exchange information web site (Exchange).

    Downloading iPassConnect

    1. Open your web browser and go to the UK Download web site (UK-Download).
    2. In the Login box, enter your Exchange user ID and password and then click on Login. The Login box will display your name when you have successfully logged in to the Download site.
      If you are unable to use your Exchange user ID and password to login, please contact the IT Customer Service Center by phone (859-218-HELP (4357)) or email (helpdesk@uky.edu).
    3. Under Operating Systems, click on the Mac OS X link. Categories of software will be displayed. Click on the Email and Internet Tools link.
    4. A list of software for that category will be displayed. Locate iPassConnect Client from the list. Click on the download link on the right to begin downloading the file.
    5. The osx_ipc.dmg disk image file (shown in Figure 1.1) will be downloaded to your computer. If you are using Internet Explorer 5, the file will automatically download to the Download Folder specified in the Internet Explorer Preferences. In other browsers, a window may appear for you to choose where the file will be stored -- choose your Desktop.

    7. Once the file has downloaded to your computer, logout of the UK Download site by clicking on the Logout button.

    Installing iPassConnect

    Before beginning installation, ensure that you are logged into OS X with a user account with administrative privileges. Also be sure to close all other programs.

    1. To begin installation, locate and double-click on the osx_ipc.dmg disk image file to open it. The file will open the Disk Copy application and create the iPassConnect mounted drive on your desktop, as shown in Figure 2.1.

    3. The iPassConnect drive window should automatically appear which shows the contents of the iPassConnect drive. If the window does not appear, double-click on the iPassConnect drive icon on the desktop to open the window. Within the window, locate and double-click the iPass.pkg installation program icon, shown in Figure 2.2.

    5. The iPassConnect installation program will begin. As displayed in Figure 2.3, you may be prompted to enter your password before continuing with the installation. Type in your OS X user account password and click the OK button to continue.

    7. The iPassConnect installation welcome screen will appear. Click Continue to proceed. The installer will display the iPassConnect ReadMe information. Review the information and click on Continue. The installer will then display the Software License Agreement. Read the agreement and then click on Continue. You will be prompted to agree or disagree with the agreement. Click on the Agree button to continue the installation process.
    8. The installer will prompt you for the location to install the software. Click on the primary hard drive of your computer to select it, and then click Continue.
    9. The installer will now prompt you to confirm installing the software. Click on the Install button to confirm. You may be prompted to enter your password before continuing with the installation. Type in your OS X user account password and click the OK button to continue.
    10. The iPassConnect installer will begin installing the software on your computer. Once the software is installed, click on the Close button to quit the installer.

    Setting Up iPassConnect

    1. You will need to open the iPassConnect client after the installation program quits. Within your Applications folder, locate and double-click the iPassConnect application icon as shown in Figure 3.1.

    3. The iPassConnect application will open. In the iPassConnect menu, select Preferences.
    4. The Preferences window will appear. The User Info information should appear within the window - if it does not, click on the User Info tab to select it. Enter the specified information in the corresponding fields:
      • Username - Enter your full iPassConnect username.
      • Domain - Enter "uky.edu" into the field.
      • Password - Enter your iPassConnect password that has been assigned to your username.
      Your window should look similar to Figure 3.2. Click on the OK button to save your changes.

      Your iPassConnect client is now correctly configured for use. Please refer to the iPassConnect User Guide for instructions (http://www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/iPass/iPC_mac_2[1]3_userguide.pdf) on using iPassConnect.
