Definition

A term used for data that describes or specifies other data. It is used to define all of the characteristics of data required to build databases and applications, and to support knowledge workers and information producers. This includes the element name, meaning, format, domain values, business integrity rules, relationships, owner, etc

Prime Word: a single word or phrase that describes the subject area or primary business category of the data element.

Qualifier/Modifier: Optional word or words that more clearly define a given data element or attribute.

Class Word: a word that describes the major classification or usage of data.
