High School and Middle School Correspondence Courses for Credit

Enrollment Guidelines

  • Students may register for an Independent Study course at any time. They are allowed one full year, from the date of enrollment, to complete the course, including the final examination.
  • Secure the written consent of either the principal or counselor at your school.
  • Select a course that will count toward your high school graduation. (The University of Kentucky does not issue high school diplomas)
  • Students can complete a course in a minimum of nine weeks per half unit or take as long as a full year.

ISP Enrollment Instructions

To enroll in a course with the Independent Study Program, please follow these instructions:

  1. Secure the written consent of either the principal or counselor at your school.
  2. Print and complete the Registration Form.
  3. Submit the registration form and a check or money order for your tuition and fees (made payable to the University of Kentucky) to the Independent Study Program Office by mail or in person (Address is listed at the top of the form).
  4. Get the needed textbooks for the course(s).
    1. Visit the textbook store of your choice to buy and/or order the textbooks.
    2. Fill out the Textbook Order Form and send it to the bookstore.
    3. Complete and submit the online textbook order form to Kennedy Book Store
