6TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES/WORLD REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY A or B (1/2 unit each)

This course for 6th grade Social Studies focuses on World Regional Geography. The course begins with a look at geography, geographic terms, map skills, the Five Themes of Geography, climates, resources and people. The rest of the text involves looking at the economy, culture, landforms, resources, governments and other features of countries and regions around the world from the United States to Antarctica.

7TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES/WORLD HISTORY A OR B (1/2 unit each)

7th grade world history covers material including prehistoric civilizations, ancient Indian civilizations, ancient China, Greek history, Roman history, Byzantium, Mongols, the Islamic Empire, Middle Ages, civilizations of East Asia, Africa and the Americas, the Renaissance, Reformation, European exploration and expansions, Revolutions and Asia in transition.

8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES/U.S. HISTORY A or B (1/2 unit each)

This course is focused on United States History through the Civil War era. It is designed to be a survey course, which precedes the high school course in U.S. History which covers material after the Civil War. Major units concern exploration and discovery, colonization, independence, and political development, as well as units on social history. Critical thinking skills are emphasized, as students are expected to learn the facts but also to apply knowledge. A textbook designed to appeal to 8th graders will be used in this course, meaning that both content and readability are priorities.
