I am delighted you have chosen to take an Independent Study course through the web. We hope that your experience will be an enjoyable one, as well as educational. Our courses on Internet have the same quality as our printed courses and the courses on the University of Kentucky campus.

Important Information

You will probably find that accessing the site for this course and extracting/editing the assignments may work best with Netscape 2.0 or better. If you are submitting lessons via e-mail or through a browser, you must include your Enrollment Number, Course Name and Number, and Lesson Number at the top of your assignment. If you are using Netscape 2.0 or greater to submit your answers, please use the information in the instruction section called Preparation of Assignments. You may make a copy of the Textbook Order Form and mail it to the bookstore of your choice.

You have one year from the date of enrollment to complete an independent study course, which includes writing the final examination. You may apply for a four month extension by paying the $50.00 extension fee and submitting it with the Extension Request Form. Please make your check payable to the University of Kentucky.

When you are ready to take your examination, you may either print the Examination Application available online or send the information by e-mail to istudy@uky.edu. For Kentucky In-State students, you are to arrange to take your examination at an Examination Center.

On-line Courses

  • FAM 252 is an introductory family science course that employs multifaceted online instructional technology.
  • Management 301 is an introductory course examining the role of the manager in modern business. Students will study what it takes to: Make Things Happen, Compete in a Global Marketplace, Organize for Effectiveness, and Lead People.
  • MKT 300 helps make each student a more informed consumer. It provides an opportunity to understand the objectives, methods, structure, and problems of marketing and their interrelationships to other areas of managerial responsibilities.
  • MKT 320 is a course that critically analyzes the retailing process, the environment within which it operates, and the institutions and functions that are performed; and provides a foundation for those students who plan to work in retailing or related disciplines.
  • Philosophy 120 has a glossary and a discussion page for students.
  • Sociology 302 is an introduction to research methods as applied to sociological problems.
