Changing your password
Introduction
Users of UKIT computing systems will need to change their passwords every 90 days. This document details a few of the methods available for changing your password.

Using the Account Manager (Most Users)
Please check to make sure your machine is not part of the Active Directory before proceeding in this section, failure to do so may result in your being locked out of your computing accounts and/or your machine.
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://ukam.uky.edu/manager/
- Click on Manage Your Account.
- Login using your current userID and password.
- Click on the Change Password Link
- Follow the on screen instructions.
After changing your password please wait 5 to 10 minutes before attempting to log into any additional resources to allow your password time to propagate.
Users of University Machines
Note to users of University owned machines
Users of machines owned by the University of Kentucky will want to check to see if their machine is a member of the Active Directory before changing their password. Failure to do so could result in your being locked out of your computing accounts.
Machines in the Active Directory commonly include, but are not limited to, front desk machines in the dormitories and desktop workstations of Faculty and Staff. Student computers in the Student Computing labs are not affected.

Changing your AD/MC password on an Active Directory machine
Users of machines in the Active Directory should follow the following steps in order to change your password.
- Log into the machine.
- On your keyboard hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys simultaneously.
- Click the Change Password Button.
- Enter your Current Password where prompted for your old password.
- Enter a new password and confirm it where prompted.
- Click the OK button.
After changing your password please wait 5 to 10 minutes before attempting to log into any additional resources to allow your password time to propagate.
Using password Self-Reset
Users who have previously configured their password Self-Reset questions can use the UK Account Manager to initiate a password self-reset. This is the preferred method for resetting your password as it will immediately change your password to the new value, allowing you to access your account without delay.
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://ukam.uky.edu/manager/
- Click on 'Reset a Forgotten Password'.
- Enter your userID where prompted.
- Click the 'Next' button.
- Answer your self-reset questions. Note: If you get an error your questions have not been configured and you will need to request an administrative reset of your password.
- Click 'Submit Answers' to continue.
- If you successfully answer your questions you will be prompted to create a new password. Carefully read the password guidelines and create a new password.
After changing your password please wait 5 to 10 minutes before attempting to log into any additional resources to allow your password time to propagate.
Requesting and Administrative reset of your password
If you have forgotten your password and are unable to complete the password self-reset procedure you will need an administrative password reset. This will forcibly set your password to the default password . To request an administrative password reset please use one of the following methods
- Call the IT Customer Service Center at (859) 257-1300.
- Students can visit the service desks of most Student Computing labs.
- Bring a photo ID to the IT Customer Service Center at 111 McVey Hall.
- Have your department's Security Liaison send an email to accounts@lsv.uky.edu specifying your full name, user ID, and the account you wish reset.
- Medical Center users can contact MCIS at (859) 323-8586.
- Fill out the Computing Accounts Request Form ( http://www.uky.edu/IT/CustomerService/authoriz.pdf ). The form should be signed by an official Security Liaison of your college/department. The form must be delivered to the IT Customer Service Center. The form can be faxed to (859) 257-9374 or delivered to 111 McVey Hall.
Once your password has been reset, you should immediately change your password from the default.
