Is U-Connect email really going away?
Yes. Email services for U-Connect will end in August 2007.
Can I still use Eudora, Thunderbird, or another email client?
The Exchange servers support POP and IMAP access in addition to Exchange, which means you can use any standards compliant browser to access your email. However, for full technical support and features, you should use either Microsoft Outlook 2002 and higher, Entourage 2004 and higher, or the Outlook Web Access.
Will I need to buy a license?
The new Microsoft Campus License Agreement will provide license to all actively affiliated UK faculty, staff and students.
Retirees will receive an Exchange license at no additional cost.
The new agreement DOES NOT provide email to the following: Alumni, contractors.
- Re: Alumni -- Students are not allowed to maintain their mailbox, they can get an "Alumni" address by contacting the Alumni association, but this will not be there current email address.
- Re: Contractors -- The Department will need to purchase a license.
Will my email address change?
For any user that migrates manually, they will have the option of setting their "From:" address in Exchange to be their U-Connect email (or UEA). This option is made available in the U-Connect Account Manager under the University Email Address settings. The option is only displayed to users that have an Exchange account under the same login ID as their U-Connect account. This, in conjunction with forwarding their U-Connect account to Exchange, will make their change of email address systems virtually transparent to most of the user's correspondents.
Users that are migrated by UKIT will have their U-Connect mail automatically forwarded to their new Exchange Account, and their Exchange Account updated to accept email for their previous userID@uky.edu and University Email addresses. If used the userID@pop.uky.edu address will also be accepted, though users are strongly encouraged to update references to to use the new email address format of userID@uky.edu.
More information on the necessary changes in the Account Manager can be found at the Updating the Account Manager support document.
Can I still forward my email? / Can I still pick a University Email Address?
Yes. The Account Manager will remain in place, though the address may change. This utility will allow users to forward their email or setup their University Email Address.
Note to Existing users: If you change your UEA, it must conform to the current UEA guidelines. There will not be a method for restoring UEA's that do not follow the current guidlines.
I have an old @pop.uky.edu address, will it still work?
Yes. However you should no longer be giving out this address. Please begin using your University Email Address.
How can I move my U-Connect Server Side Address Book?
Unfortunately it is not possible to move Address book entries stored in the U-Connect address book via an automatic or semi-automatic process. These items must be manually and indviually copied from your U-Connect Address boook into your Exchange Address Book.
How can I move my U-Connect Server Side Calendar events?
Unfortunately it is not possible to move calendar entries stored in the U-Connect calendar via an automatic or semi-automatic process. These items must be manually and indviually copied from your U-Connect calendar into your Exchange calendar.
Can I still access public folders through Outlook Web Access?
Until Microsoft releases an update for Exchange Server later this year users of the the Outlook Web Access 2007 cannot natively access Public Folders. Users of the Outlook and Entourage clients are not affected. Please use the procedure outlined below in order to access public folders until this patch is released and applied.
- Point your web browser to https://exchange.uky.edu/public/ (Helpful Hint: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher works best)
- You will be presetned with a login screen for the new Outlook Web Access. Login with your user ID and password (Helpful Hint: Remember to put AD\ or MC\ in front of your user ID).
- This will log you into the Exchange Public Folders.
- Scroll through the list of public folders and click on the name of your Public Folder to access its contents.
What is the difference between the 'Premium' and 'Light' versions of Outlook Web Access?
Both Versions will allow you to access your Exchange email, calendar, and contacts. However the 'Premium' version of the client is only availble to users of Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher as it uses several advanced features to display the content the user's mailbox that must be adjusted to each web browser platform and version. It for this same reason that users of Internet Explorer 5.5 and lower will also receive the 'Light' version.
