Obtaining Office 2003

To install the Microsoft Office 2003 program on a computer, you will need the Office 2003 installation CD. This CD can be created if your computer has a recordable CD drive (CD-R or CD-RW). Please see the "Downloading Office 2003 ISO & Product Key" and "Burning the Office ISO Image" sections below for instructions.

Downloading Office 2003 ISO & Product Key

  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator) and go to the UK Download web site (http://download.uky.edu).
  2. In the Login box, enter your email userID (no AD\ or MC\) and password and then click on Login. The Login box will display your name when you have successfully logged in to the Download site.
If you are unable to use your user ID and password to login, please contact the IT Customer Service Center by phone (859 257-1300) or email (helpdesk@uky.edu).
  3. Under Operating Systems, click on the Windows 2000, 2000 Server, XP link. Categories of software will be displayed. Click on the Microsoft Campus Agreement link.
  4. A list of software for that category will be displayed. Locate Microsoft Office 2003 Professional from the list. Click on the Product Key Required! Click Here link. This will send the Office 2003 product key to your University Email Address.
If you do not receive the product key in your email, please contact the IT Customer Service Center by phone (257-1300) or email (helpdesk@uky.edu).
  5. Click on the download link to the right of Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. You will be asked whether you wish to open or save the file. Click Save and select Desktop as the save-to location. Click Save. This will download the Office2k3.iso file to your computer.
  6. Allow the file to completely download -- it will take several minutes for high-speed Internet connections or several hours for dial-up Internet connections. Once the file has downloaded to your computer, logout of the UK Download site by clicking on the Logout button.

Burning the Office ISO Image

You will need to burn the Office2k3.iso ISO image to a CD using your CD-R or CD-RW drive. The IT Customer Service Center provides information on how to burn an ISO image using Easy CD Creator (http://www.uky.edu/IT/CustomerService/docs/isoburn/index.html). If you do not use Easy CD Creator, please refer to your system documentation on burning ISO images.

Once you have burned the Office 2003 ISO image to a CD, you may delete the Office2k3.iso file.

Installing Office 2003

Before beginning installation, ensure that your computer has a connection to the Internet.

  1. Insert the Office 2003 Installation CD into your CD drive. After a few seconds of copying installation files to your computer, the installation program will begin.
If the installation program does not begin automatically, open My Computer, then open the OFFICE11 CD, and then double-click the SETUPPRO.EXE application.
  2. You will be first prompted for the Office 2003 product key. Type in the product key you obtained from the UK Download web site. Use only 5 characters per field box, and 25 characters total. When you are finished, click on the Next button.
