CNS is continuing to evaluate this new emerging technology.

CNS Consulting assists University departments in the evaluation and design of communications products and solutions to fit your needs or applications.

Justification:
Voice over IP reduces operating costs. VOIP reduces infrastructure cost since both data and voice traffic can use the same network. VOIP reduces management costs since adds, moves and changes (WHAT ARE THESE?) can be made through a web browser. VOIP can help reduce long distance charges, especially for international calls.

Technical Considerations:
Transmitting voice over an IP network requires that latency, jitter and packet loss be minimized. Installing VOIP services may require upgrading the campus network infrastructure and/or a department network infrastructure.
