DEFINITION OF STANDARD:
Voicemail is a computerized telephone answering system that digitizes incoming telephone voice messages and stores them for retrieval and forwarding. The voicemail system usually provides an auto-attendant capability that uses prerecorded messages to route the caller to the appropriate person, department or mailbox. Advanced-system features integrate voicemail with email systems, allowing users to view voice and fax messages from a desktop PC.
