DEFINITION OF STANDARD:
A browser is an application that provides a way to look at and interact with information on the World Wide Web.

RATIONALE: Although standardization is desirable for support and to ensure that all employees have current, standard features available through browser interface, a single product recommendation is impractical at this time.

Recommended Standard(s):
World Wide Web Consortium standards

Recommended Product(s):
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
Mozilla 1.6

Both are available at http://download.uky.edu/

Justification:
The two competing vendors offer leading-edge standard features, as well as a number of proprietary features. Because this technology is moving at such a rapid pace, and because the industry has not resolved the majority of the current standards issues, a standard cannot be limited to one browser at this time. Many users may actually require both browsers to successfully navigate the applications.

Technical Considerations:
Web publishers should use UK web publishing standards when creating web content.
