I. Education Abroad Annual Fair – Where do YOU want to go?

 

Stop by the Education Abroad Annual Fair today, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., on the walkway between the William T. Young Library and Rose Street. Students can enjoy a free international lunch and live world music while exploring the many education abroad opportunities available to them. Learn more about the fair or use the education abroad online search feature on the OIA Web site to discover which programs match your needs and interests.


II. Hunger Week 2009
 

Students Taking Action Globally encourages all students to participate in Hunger Week, October 12-16. This week is filled with events and awareness campaigns. Funds raised will be donated to Kentucky Academy in Ghana to purchase school lunches. Today from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., donations are being accepted at the Hit-4-Hunger Car Smashing Event at the Alpha Tau Omega house. Then attend the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, 5-7 p.m. at the Christian Student Fellowship house. Check  http://www.wix.com/stagcco/hunger-week for details and a complete schedule.

 

III. International Student Tuition Scholarships

The Office of International Affairs will be awarding approximately twenty $1,000 scholarships for the Spring 2010 semester. Scholarships will be awarded to international undergraduate and graduate students based on strong academic scholarship and financial need. For eligibility criteria and instructions on how to apply, click here. The application deadline is Monday, November 9 at 4 p.m.


IV. Freshmen Senator Elections 

Elections for freshmen senators will be held today and tomorrow. Freshmen may cast their votes at polling stations at the Student Center or the Classroom Building on Wednesday, October 14 and at Commons Diner or the Classroom Building on Thursday, October 15, or vote online from any computer on campus. To learn more, visit the Student Government Web site or read the candidates’ platform statements. V. Embrace Asia at the ArtsAsia Festival

The University of Kentucky Asia Center and the UK Asian Fine Arts Initiative invite you to  “Embrace Asia” during the upcoming ArtsAsia Festival. A week-long celebration of Asian art and culture, the festival will feature world-class musicians, artists, dancers, scholars and educators in a series of performances, lectures and hands-on workshops to be held throughout Lexington Saturday, October 17-Saturday, October 24. Nearly all events are free. Visit the Asia Center’s Web site for details.

 

VI. Fun in the Park

The University of Kentucky and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government invite you to “Fun in the Park” on Saturday, October 17. Enjoy live entertainment, free food, Frisbee, softball and a free throw tournament in Woodland Park, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit the Facebook event page for details.

 


VII. Alternative Spring Break


Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a service-oriented organization that is a part of the UK Center for Community Outreach. Through ASB, students join together for a week of service during Spring Break. This year, ASB is offering three spring break service trips. There will be an information session at 6 p.m. today in the “smart classroom” area of the UK Center for Student Involvement. An application and $50 deposit will be due on Friday, October 30. VIII. Patterson School Presents “Arc of Crisis”

S. Frederick Starr, Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and Silk Road Studies Program will be the keynote speaker at the fall conference for the Patterson School of Diplomacy & International Commerce on Thursday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the William T. Young Library Auditorium. The presentation, “Arc of Crisis,” is free and open to the public.
