International Conversation Night takes place tonight at 6 p.m. in the UK Writing Center on the fifth floor of the William T. Young Library.

The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) Fund was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study. Visit the P.E.O. Sisterhood Web Site for details. Completed applications must be returned by December 15.
I. “Between Barack and A Hard Place” Lecture
Tim Wise, renowned author of “Between Barack and A Hard Place: Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama”, will speak to the University of Kentucky community on issues of anti-racism in the era of President Obama. A top expert on diversity and multiculturalism, he is one of America’s most prominent anti-racist writers. The lecture is a collaboration among many student organizations and departments on campus, including the Student Activities Board, the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center, African American Studies and Research Program, Students Teaching Acceptance Not Discrimination, CATalyst and TallyCats. Attend this free event tonight in the Worsham Theater at 7 p.m.
II. Spanish Conversation Tonight
Native or fluent Spanish speakers are invited to join in a conversation with the residents of Holmes Hall tonight at 6:30 p.m. This informal discussion will help students practice their Spanish. Free food from Qdoba will be available. Those who are interested can contact Nazeeha Jawahir at nsjawa2@uky.edu.
III. International Student Workshop and Writing Instruction Sessions
During the International Student Workshop on Friday, October 23, a consultant from the UK Writing Center will be available to answer questions and give advice. Interested international students should bring a writing project to 207 Bradley Hall at 1 p.m. Writing assistance will also be available to all students in Smith Hall at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27. Refreshments will be served at both sessions.
IV. Latino Week 2009
All students are invited to participate in a celebration of Latino heritage this week. Take part in a Latino cooking class tonight in The Lemon Tree on the second floor of Erikson Hall, 7-8:30 p.m. On Thursday, October 22, learn the basic steps of salsa & merengue dancing outside the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center in the UK Student Center, 2-3 p.m. The week ends with dinner at Mi Pequeña Hacienda Restaurant (2501 Lansdowne Drive) at 7 p.m. followed by laser tag at Champs Entertainment Complex at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23.
V. Expert on Middle Eastern Law to Visit Campus
The University of Kentucky College of Law will host the first Randall Park Colloquium this week. Chibli Mallat, Presidential Professor of Law and Professor of Middle Eastern Law and Politics at the University of Utah will speak on Thursday, October 22. The presentation, which is titled “How the U.S. Casebook Can Feature in Decision-Making: From Iraq – Guide to Law and Policy to Afghanistan,” will take place at 4 p.m. in the faculty lounge.
VI. The Women of Michoacan: Art & Artists
"The Women of Michoacan: Art & Artists" exhibition is open at the Hite Galleries in Louisville. A reception co-sponsored by the department of Latin American & Latino Studies and the Hite Art Institute, University of Louisville, will be held on Thursday, October 29, 5-7 p.m. All are welcome.
