I. Pre-Register and Maintain Full Time Enrollment

Remember to pre-register for the Spring 2010 semester. Full time enrollment, which is required for F-1 and J-1 students to maintain status, is defined as 12 or more credit hours for undergraduate students and 9 or more credit hours for graduate schools. NOTE: Only 3 credit hours of distance learning/online classes can count toward full time enrollment each semester. Please provide proof of full time enrollment for the Spring 2010 semester along with unofficial transcripts with any request submitted to the OIA International Student & Scholars Services unit.

II. Endorsements for Holiday Travel

Are you an F-1 or J-1 student planning to travel outside of the United States over the upcoming holiday breaks?  Be sure your documents are endorsed for travel! Each travel endorsement is good for one year, or to the ending date of the document, whichever is earlier.  Check the signature date on your present document to see if it is still valid and don’t forget to check the documents of your F-2/J-2 dependents. If you need a travel endorsement:

o    Read the travel instructions and complete the “Travel Request Form” found at  http://www.uky.edu/IntlAffairs.

o    Include your unofficial transcript from myUK, your class schedule for Spring 2010 semester and you original I-20 or DS-2019.

o    Submit all of the requested documentation to 215 or 210 Bradley Hall (F-1 students) or  211 Bradley Hall (J-1 students).

Names of children, along with their wish lists, will be available 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, November 6, in the Student Center Great Hall and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10 at the Student Center Bridge Hall. Visit UKNow for more information.

VII. International Student Workshop: Developing Close Relationships

Join other international students, as well as staff from the UK Counseling and Testing Center and the Office of International Affairs, to talk about life in the United States. This week’s session “How to Develop Close Relationships,” is a discussion about dating, friendship and socializing. Meet in room 207 in Bradley Hall, 1-2 p.m. on Friday, November 6. Visit the OIA Web site for a complete list of this semester’s workshop topics.

VIII. Patterson School Film Festival: “Bridge Over the Wadi”

The Patterson School’s 2009 film festival, Searching for Common Grounds in the Arc of Conflict, presents “Bridge Over the Wadi” on Thursday, November 5 at 8 p.m. in room 110 of the Whitehall Classroom Building. “Bridge Over the Wadi” documents the first year of a conjoint bi-national, bi-lingual school inside an Arab village in Israel, showing how complicated and fragile the attempt is to create an environment of co-existence against the backdrop of the complicated reality around.
