I. Job Search Strategies Workshop

On Thursday, November 12, the Stuckert Career Center will help you jumpstart your job search. Learn about effective online job searching, using social media sites, networking and mentoring. Get an employer perspective on the most effective ways to conduct a job search and get hired. This 50-minute workshop will be offered twice, at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Food will be provided.


 

II. Patterson School Open House

The Patterson School of Diplomacy & International Commerce is hosting its annual Open House on Monday, November 16, 6-7 p.m. in room 420 of the Patterson Office Tower. Prospective graduate students interested in pursuing careers in international affairs will want to learn more about the selective masters program, which  provides the skills needed to succeed in endeavors ranging from diplomacy and intelligence to international careers in the private and the non-profit sectors. Interested students can obtain detailed information on the Patterson School's curriculum, admissions process, costs and financial aid, as well as internship and career options. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff and current students.

III. Thanksgiving Celebrations

 

UK international students are invited to the UK Alumni Association for the 4th Annual International Student Thanksgiving Dinner at the Alumni House, 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24. Bring your appetite for roasted turkey, dressing and all the traditional Thanksgiving fixings (including vegetarian options), and don’t forget to save room for pecan and pumpkin pie for dessert. Provost Subbaswamy will be in attendance, and there will be a raffle for door prizes at the end of the event. Please register at http://www.ukalumni.net/thanksgiving2009.

 

In addition, everyone is invited to Thanksgiving dinner at the UK Baptist Campus Ministry Building at 429 Columbia Avenue on Wednesday, November 25 at 6:30 p.m. This event is limited to the first 220 UK students who register. IV. International Student Workshop: I Don’t Understand the Slang

Join other international students, as well as staff from the UK Counseling and Testing Center and the Office of International Affairs, to talk about life in the United States. This week’s session “Help! I Don’t Understand the Slang ,” is the second part of a series about common expressions and idioms used in the English language. Meet in room 207 in Bradley Hall, 1-2 p.m. on Friday, November 13. Visit the OIA Web site for a complete list of this semester’s workshop topics.


V. Patterson School Film Festival: “My Home, Your War”

The Patterson School’s 2009 film festival, Searching for Common Grounds in the Arc of Conflict, presents “My Home, Your War” on Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in room 204 of the Whitehall Classroom Building. The film -- which was shot over three years including the time before, during and after the invasion of Iraq -- examines the effects of the Iraq War through the eyes of women.

 

VI. Taste of India Tonight

Enjoy a five-course dining experience featuring sweet potato samosa, lamb kafta, phirni, and more at Taste of India tonight in Blazer Café. Reservations are required. VII. Wii Bowling


Play Wii Bowling in the Cats Den on Monday, November 16, 7-10 p.m. This activity is sponsored by the Student Center and the Cats Den.
