- International Conversation Hour is canceled for Wednesday, February 25. Sessions will resume next week.
I. UK Cultural Diversity Festival: International Talent Night
The 20th UK Cultural Diversity Festival begins this weekend. International Talent Night: We Are UK is the opening event of the festival, which runs through March 31. We Are UK is set for Saturday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Students, faculty, staff and the Lexington community are invited to this showcase of culture and tradition. Tickets are $3 at the door. Students who attend can register to win an iPod Touch from Student Government. To perform, e-mail zahrauky@gmail.com.
There are dozens of Cultural Diversity Festival activities each week. Upcoming events include:
- The One World Film Festival presentation of “War Dance” on Sunday, March 1
- “Islam and America” the keynote address for Islamic Awareness Week on Wednesday, March 4 (Students who attend can register to win an iPod Touch from Student Government.)
- Taste of Our World on Wednesday, March 4
- The Transgressions & Transformations Film Series presentation of “My Home – Your War” on Wednesday, March 4

II. International Classroom/ Cross-Cultural Workshop in Eastern Kentucky
Join OIA staff for a two-day International Classroom/ Cross-Cultural Workshop in Eastern Kentucky on Thursday and Friday, March 19-20, during Spring Break. This program invites international students to make a 45-minute presentation about their home country to elementary school students in Knox County. Staff from the International Affairs Office can assist with planning the classroom presentations. International student participants will also have an opportunity to learn about this unique region of the United States. Participants will stay overnight at Pine Mountain State Park and visit the historic Cumberland Gap located in the heart of the Appalachian mountains. The cost is $20 and includes lodging, transportation, and several meals. In addition to the $20 fee, students will need to bring about $10 for meals that are not covered. Spaces are limited. III. Ask an Advisor
Undergraduate students are encouraged to attend “ASK AN ADVISOR” tonight to talk with academic advisors about which classes to take next semester, what do if you are considering changing your major or any other related topics. Stop by South Commons or Ovid’s between 5-7 p.m. for dinner and some expert advice.
V. International Student Workshop: Finding Your Voice
Join other international students, as well as staff from the UK Counseling and Testing Center and the Office of International Affairs, to talk about life in the United States. This week’s session, “Finding Your Voice in Class and in Your Department” will focus on knowing what to expect from your advisor, participating in group projects and contributing to class discussion. Meet in room 207 of Bradley Hall, 2-3 p.m. on Friday, February 27.
