Community Services

From interpreters and translators to multicultural presentations, OIA helps fill a variety of requests -- connecting individuals and organizations with campus and community resources. Staff members, UK international students and other experts can speak on a variety of international topics and structure a program for any group.

Here's one example:

Habitat for Humanity of Lexington works to provide homes for families in the Lexington area. Once a family has been chosen to receive a home, they are required to participate in "sweat equity", including classes that teach the adults how to manage their new home. While the parents are participating in classes, Habitat for Humanity provides educational activities for their children. Habitat for Humanity and the UK Office of International Affairs teamed up to provide activities for the children to learn about the homes and culture of some of the other countries where habitat works. For more information about Habitat for Humanity or Habitat for Humanity International go to www.habitat.org.
