Friendship International

Friendship International is a program specially designed for international women and children. Organized by the Immanuel Baptist Church, international women will have the opportunity to attended classes which include ESL, Bible Study, Cooking, Crochet, Line Dancing, Quilting, Food Fair, and many more!! FREE childcare is provided for your preschool children when you are attending this program. The older children will also have opportunity to make new American and International friends of their own age.

When: Thursday mornings, 8.45 am – 11.00 am

Transportation: A van from Immanuel Baptist Church will pick up women and children from Cooperstown, Shawneetown and Commonwealth Drive each Thursday between 8.45am and 9.00 am.

The Cargenie Center for Literacy and Learning

Free Tutoring (in English) for children ages 5 to 15. There is a $25 registration fee, but after that all tutoring is FREE!!!

Lexington Children's Museum

The Lexington Children’s Museum has 7 galleries feature exhibits about nature, the human heart, world geography and culture, archaeology and Lexington history. Bring your children and let them experience hands-on fun at the ‘Bubble Factory,’ ‘Science Station,’ ‘Wonder Woods,’ and many more. Hours: Open year-round 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; Closed on Mondays. Admission $4 per person, children below 12 months old FREE.

All about Horses

Lexington, KY is the Horse Capital of the World!! So, seize this opportunity to visit some of the homes of living Derby (racehorse) winners that allow tourists.

Please call to make sure that they are open, and make an appointment to visit the farms. Some of the farms include:

  1. Three Chimney Farms, located on Old Frankfort Pike in Woodford County, west of Lexington. Enjoy the scenery of beautifully manicured grounds and impressive barns. Famous residents include 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given. March through November: tours are normally given on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1:00 p.m., but tours are offered year round. Tour size is limited, so call well in advance for reservations. Phone: 859.873.7053.
  2. Ashford Stud, near Versailles. Contact: 859.873.7088 to find out more.
  3. Normandy Farm, 4701 Paris Pike. Tours are by appointment only, Monday through Friday. Contact: 859.294.9595 to find out more.
  4. The Kentucky Horse Park. Featuring more than 50 breeds of horse at work and play, the Park features a variety of equine presentations along with horse drawn tours and carriage rides. The park is home to The International Museum of the Horse and the American Saddle Horse Museum. Activities at the Kentucky Horse Park will educate and entertain the entire family. The Park is open 7 days a week from March 15 to October 31 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). During the winter the Park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Contact: 1.800.568.8813 or 859.233.4303.

    This production, originally developed by LCT, has its roots in the Appalachian hills of West Virginia. Based on the folk song, this classic American tale pits one man’s hammer against another man’s machine in a battle of wills and determination. Suggested for grades 3 to 6. 2 p.m. Tickets: $10 adults, $8.25 children.
