8. End-of-semester Potluck Social - December

2005 ISC EXCOs are all international students. We know what it is like to be far away from our family and also friends who are traveling during the holidays. Finals were just over, some of you may be deprived of sleep while some may be deprived of good food!!! Therefore, we decided to organize a potluck social and invited everyone on the ISC listserv to see who's still on campus. We had the Potluck social on the weekend of the Final Weeks at Smith Hall and we all had a great time!!! We enjoyed the variety of food everyone brought and of course, we got to know new friends.

6. SOUTH ASIA EARTHQUAKE FUNDRAISING EVENT - November 2005

ISC organized a collaborative fund-raising event for the South Asia Earthquake Relief Fund. Some Pakistani students were concerned with the lack of funds and came to us and seek our help as the International Student Council. On the fundraising days, some ISC EXCO took turns to man the table. Also involved were Presidents of some student organizations namely from the Muslim Student Association, Turkey Student Organization, Malaysian Student Organization, Indian Student Association and Chinese Students and Scholars Association. We were very touched with their hard work and support. Gohar, who is from Pakistan provided the event with display posters of the aftermath of the earthquake in Pakistan. Some students from Pakistan were also stationed at the table during fundraising. We have raised $198 during the two-day fundraising selling ribbons and the money was sent to ICNA Relief
(http://www.reliefonline.org), New York. ISC would like to thank a volunteer, Amira who helped in making the ribbons for the event. We would also like to thank everyone else who came to our Council meeting and gave ideas for this fundraising.

5. INTERNATIONAL NIGHT - Sept. 2005

ISC International Night was held on Saturday, September 17th, 2005 from 6.30 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. at the Ralph G. Anderson Engineering Building Courtyard, University of Kentucky. It was a memorable night indeed!!! International Night 2005 showcases traditional talent from UK international and local students and scholars who come from various countries around the world, including the U.S.A through breathtaking international fashion show, cultural dance performances, traditional and modern music and songs, as well as demonstration of martial arts. In addition, we have demonstrations of calligraphy, henna tattoo, face painting and traditional board games. An array of artifacts, traditional costumes, and flags were displayed in various booths that represent each country and culture. The aim of this festive event is to celebrate diversity on our campus and to share the world's vibrant cultures and lifestyles with everyone in the community, right here on the grounds of University of Kentucky. We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all our sponsors for their contribution. In particular, we would like to thank the Student Government, Student Affairs, and Office of International Affairs for their financial and moral support. We would also like to express our gratitude to volunteers and leaders from most student organizations who out in countless hours to help set up the whole event. This event was made possible by ALL OF YOU!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Click

4. WELCOME WEEK MOVIE NIGHT - August 2005

Movie Night was one of the programs that ISC has planned to welcome the new international students during the Welcome Week. We played "The Incredibles" during the Orientation/Welcome Week of Fall 2005. The movie was played on Aug. 19th, 2005 at the Nursing Building Room NURS 201 and was attended by approximately 60 new and old students, and family. Admission was free and snacks and lemonade were provided.

3. ISC GAME NIGHT - August 2005

ISC Game Night was an evening specially designed for new international students. Held on Aug. 18th, 2005 from 5.30 pm - 8.30 pm, it was well-attended by approximately 25 students. We believe it was well-attended considering that evening was filled with dark clouds and scattered showers which made the water balloon-throwing more fun than it used to be. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Todd Martin of BSU who helped us in making this a great success.

2. SUMMER MOVIE NIGHT - June 2005

It was summer 2005. Campus was quiet, almost everyone has left for the summer break. But there were still some students around campus, and some who took Summer classes. So the ISC EXCO planned something nice for international students who were still on campus. After some brainstorming on movies, we decided on "The Terminal" starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The movie was played at the Nursing Building theater and was attended by approximately 40 students, and family. Not bad attendance for a free movie during Summer. By the way, admission was free and snacks and lemonade were provided (Yeah…Jesline makes the best lemonade on this campus…).

1. POTLUCK SOCIAL- June 2005

A potluck party was held during the Summer to get to know some of the Officers of other student organizations. We held it just at the Bradley Hall courtyard, it was a nice day for an outdoor potluck social.
