New Research Scholars and Professors on J-1 Visas

Welcome to the University of Kentucky, your sponsor in the U. S. Department of State Exchange Visitor Program. Responsible Officers have been appointed by the University to advise and assist Exchange Visitors. When questions arise on the J visa regulations, the initial and primary contact for Exchange Visitors should be with: Marc Invergo, Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) - 211 Bradley Hall: marc.invergo@uky.edu

Upon arrival:
Each J-1 visa holder must report to the Scholar's Office, 211 Bradley Hall, after arrival for visa validation. Please call Marc Invergo, 257.4067 ext. 240 for an appointment, or email marc.invergo@uky.edu. Failure to report can result in the automatic cancellation of the visa.

J-1 Orientation:
In addition, each J-1 visa holder must attend a mandatory orientation to learn about their regulations governing visa status. Newcomers may ask questions concerning their status and meet other researchers new to the University of Kentucky. The date of this orientation will be given to the exchange visitor at the time of their visa validation.

Hiring a visiting scholar or postdoctoral scholar or fellow:
If you represent a University of Kentucky department that wishes to hire a visiting scholar or postdoctoral scholar/fellow who will come on the J-1 visa, additional information is available.
