Who are J-1 Students?
J-1 students are also called Exchange Visitors because they have been selected by an Exchange Visitor program sponsor to participate in a program of study in the United States. They are termed “visitors” because they have residence in a foreign country to which they plan to return.
These students are eligible for the Exchange Visitor Program only if they are initially supported substantially by funding from any source other than personal or family funds, with the exception of a program based on a written agreement between the University of Kentucky and a foreign educational institution or government.
They can come to pursue a non-degree prescribed course of study that is limited to 24 months or a full course of study which may include the completion of a degree.
