Coal Production Database

KGS has compiled information on Kentucky coal production information from a variety resources. In addition, the Kentucky Department of Mines and Minerals publishes an annual report of coal production from the Commonwealth. Data from these reports has been compiled into the Coal Production Database. The Coal Production Database is now searchable by county or region on the KGS Web site. Coal production information is downloadable and includes county, year, undifferentiated tonnage, underground tonnage, surface tonnage, and total tonnage. For more information, contact Bethany Overfield at (859) 323-0514. The U.S. Energy Information Administration also has information on Kentucky and U.S. coal production and resources. EIA’s annual coal report and coal databases include the official statistics for Kentucky coal production tabulated in different categories and downloadable in different formats. These statistics differ slightly from the state’s.
