Well cuttings
There are several ways to locate samples and cores at the library. A computerized catalog of well information, organized by county, is maintained. Well information is arranged within counties by farm name (alphabetically) and by Carter coordinate location. Well information is also logged in the well record book. Boxes are labeled with call number, county, location, operator, well number, farm name, permit number, footage interval, and box number. Up-to-date maps are kept showing the deepest formation for which samples are available in each section of the counties. Information Circular 3,"Catalog of Well Samples, Cores, and Auger Samples on File at the Kentucky Geological Survey," lists cores, samples, and auger holes.
