The major objective for the Well Sample and Core Library is to provide central storage for all samples and cores obtained from exploratory drilling for oil, gas, coal, lignite, tar sand, black shale, lead, zinc, fluorspar, and limestone in Kentucky. Storage is also provided for samples from specific research projects of the Kentucky Geological Survey. The Survey strives to provide laboratory facilities for the study of the samples by geologists, representatives of industry and academic institutions, researchers, and geology students.
