Rules and Procedures For Sampling Materials at the Well Sample and Core Library

Sampling of cuttings and cores is permitted under very strict controls:

  • The sample must be large enough.
  • A copy of the thesis or report for which the sample is required must be submitted to the Well Sample and Core Library at the time the thesis is defended or when the report is completed.
  • All materials not destroyed must be returned to the library, including thin sections, polished slabs, and plugs.

This allows the Survey to build on the information it can make available to others. Results of specific studies will be held confidential for 1 year, if requested. KGS encourages researchers, geologists, faculty, and students to use the facility for research.
