CO2 Sequestration in Devonian Black Shales

Contact: Brandon Nuttall

Devonian Shale Production Incline

The Energy and Minerals Section is conducting research funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to test whether CO2 can be injected into Devonian organic-rich shales for long-term storage. If successful, black shales may be an excellent reservoir for long-term geologic storage of CO2 with the added benefit of serving to enhance natural gas production. For detailed information on this project, see the Analysis of Devonian Shale for Carbon Sequestration reseach project page.

For other CO2 research at KGS, see the MIDCARB project page.
