During the 1980’s, coal production in WKY was about 50 million tons / year, and came from ᡇ beds. Today, most of the mining in WKY is limited to only 3 beds, the Springfield, Herrin and Baker, with contribution
from other coal beds being essentially
insignificant. Production in 2000 was 25.8 Mt, down from 41.8 Mt in 1991, a 38 % decrease.
