4.0 Magnitude Earthquake on June 2, 2005

A light earthquake occurred June 2, 2005 at about 6:35 a.m. Central Time in the New Madrid Seismic Zone near Ridgelyh , TN . Registering 4.0 on the Richter scale, the quake occurred 14.9 kilometers (9.3 miles) underground.

The earthquake was recorded on instruments in the Kentucky Seismic and Strong Motion Network, operated jointly by the Kentucky Geological Survey and the Geological Sciences Department at the University of Kentucky .
