3.1 Magnitude Earthquake on June 15, 2006

A minor earthquake occurred June 15, 2006 at about 8:57 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in the East Tennessee Seismic Zone near Gatlinburg , Tennessee . The magnitude 3.1 earthquake occurred 5 kilometers (3 miles) underground.

The earthquake was recorded on instruments in the Kentucky Seismic and Strong Motion Network, operated jointly by the Kentucky Geological Survey and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky .
