Magnitude 7.0 earthquake in northern Peru on August 24, 2011

A strong earthquake occurred in northern Peru on August 24, 2011 at 1:46 PM EDT. The epicenter was approximately 352 miles NNE of Lima. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred at an estimated depth of 145 km (90 miles).

The earthquake was recorded by the Kentucky Seismic and Strong-Motion Network, operated jointly by the Kentucky Geological Survey and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky.
