Deepest Well

The deepest well in Kentucky is the Exxon No. 1 Duncan, Webster County, in the western Kentucky portion of the Illinois Basin, south of the Rough Creek Fault System (fine black lines in the figure). Drilled to a total depth of 15,200 feet in the Eau Claire Formation of Cambrian age in 1977, it was plugged and abandoned.
