Minor Minerals
Numerous minerals occur in Kentucky rocks in small quantities or to a limited extent, or are only observable under a microscope. Among these minerals are albite, orthoclase feldspar, zircon, and epidote, which make up some of the small constituents of sandstones in eastern Kentucky. Pyroxene (diopside), hornblende, enstatite, and chromite are a few additional microscopic minerals that have been noted in the igneous dikes of Kentucky.
