Allen county was formed in 1815. It is located in the Pennyrile region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 445 to 966 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 17,800 in a land area of 346.12 square miles, an average of 51.4 people per square mile. The county seat is Scottsville.
