Anderson county was formed in 1827. It is located in the Outer Bluegrass region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 469 to 940 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 21,421 in a land area of 201.83 square miles, an average of 106.1 people per square mile.

The county seat is Lawrenceburg.
