Boyle county was formed in 1842. It is located in the Bluegrass region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 740 to 1364 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 28,432 in a land area of 180.17 square miles, an average of 157.8 people per square mile.

The county seat is Danville.
