Bracken County, Kentucky

Bracken county is located in the northern Bluegrass region of Kentucky, along the Ohio river. It was formed in 1796 and named for William Bracken, an early settler. The first county seat was at Augusta, but it moved briefly to Oxford (1800 to 1802), back to Augusta, and finally moved to Woodward's Crossing, now Brooksville, in 1839. The population of the county in 1990 was 7,766.
