Carroll county was formed in 1838. It is located in the Outer Bluegrass region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 420 to 940 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 10,811 in a land area of 128.57 square miles, an average of 84.1 people per square mile.

The county seat is Carrollton.
