Fayette County, Kentucky

Fayette county is located in the central Bluegrass region of Kentucky. It was one of the original three Kentucky counties formed by Virginia in 1780 and was named in honor of the Revolutionary War hero, General Lafayette. Lexington is the county seat. In 1974 the city and county governments merged to form the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. The population in 1990 was 225,366.
