Harrison county was formed in 1794. It is located in the Bluegrass region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 540 to 1060 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 18,846 in a land area of 306.36 square miles, an average of 61.5 people per square mile.

The county seat is Cynthiana.
