Hickman county was formed in 1822. It is located in the Jackson Purchase region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 276 to 510 feet above sea level. In 2010 the county population was 4,902 in a land area of 242.27 square miles, an average of 20.2 people per square mile. It is the least densely populated county in the state.
The county seat is Clinton.
