Leslie county is located in southeastern Kentucky. It is a rugged, mountainous county with very little agriculture. The county was formed in 1878 and named for Governor Preston H. Leslie. The county seat is Hyden. The population in 1990 was 13,642.

Leslie county is the home of the Frontier Nursing Service, headquartered in Wendover.
