Trigg county is located in southwestern Kentucky. It was formed in 1820 from parts of Christian and Caldwell counties and named to honor Colonel Stephen Trigg. The county seat is Cadiz.

The western part of the county is within the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area and Lake Barkley State Resort Park is west of Cadiz.
