Jamestown, Kentucky

Jamestown, the seat of Russell county, is located in the center of the county and near Lake Cumberland. The town was established in 1826 on land donated by James Woodridge and was originally called Jacksonville, to honor Andrew Jackson, but it was soon changed to Jamestown for Woodridge. The Jamestown post office opened in 1826. The population in 1990 was 1,641.
