Jeffersontown is an eastern Jefferson county town and suburb of Louisville. It area was settled beginning around 1780. The town of Jefferson was established by Abraham Bruner in 1797, but was variously known as Bruner's Town, Brunerstown, and Jefferson Town before settling on the present name. The Jeffersontown post office opened in 1816 and has since closed. The population in 1990 was 23,221.
