La Center, Kentucky

La Center is a central Ballard county town. It was established in 1903 and originally named Maryville for the daughter of the owner of the land, Margaret Davis. The name La Center, derived from the town's location in the county, was used for the post office - perhaps because the name Maryville was already in use. The La Center post office opened in 1903. The population in 1990 was 1,040.
