Torrent, a southwestern Wolfe county village, was once the site of the El Park Hotel resort, built in 1890 and destroyed by fire in 1935. The town was named for a nearby waterfall. The Torrent post office opened in 1890 and the post office and railroad station closed in the 1930s.
