Versailles, founded in 1792, is the Woodford county seat. The area was once known as Falling Spring, but the town was named to honor General Lafayette. It is at the junction of US 60 and US 62 and near the Bluegrass Parkway. The Versailles post office opened in 1801. The population in 2000 was 7,511.
