Interviewing On-Campus: Interviewing opportunities for summer and permanent positions are arranged for students both on-campus in the fall and spring and at a number of national job fairs. Interviewing opportunities are available to UK Law students at a level well above the norm for a state school of its size and location. UK Law graduates are located across the Commonwealth, with Kentucky's major law firms, corporate and government employers, as well as in smaller law firms, companies, government offices, and public interest organizations. UK Law graduates, working both inside and outside Kentucky, return to campus to interview UK Law students for summer and permanent positions.

Judicial Clerkships: A high percentage of graduates choose to clerk for state and federal judges for one or two years after graduation before accepting offers of permanent employment. The judicial internship program provides a great way to meet judges and gain exposure to the clerkship experience while you are still a law student.

Job Fairs: The College of Law participates in approximately 21 career fairs and interview programs. The College of Law is the only Kentucky member of the Southeastern Law Placement Consortium ("SELPC"), a group of schools that hold the nation's oldest job fair in Atlanta in August, attracting employers from across the country. In recent years, UK Law students attending SELPC have taken positions in Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, Washington, D.C., New York and other major cities. UK is also a member of the Mid Atlantic Legal Recruitment Conference ("MALRC"), which holds an August job fair in Washington, D.C. for federal government and private sector employers. UK Law is an active member of the Southeastern Minority Job Fair ("SEMJF"), held in Atlanta in August before classes begin. Each year SEMJF attracts more than 100 employers from across the country who are particularly interested in hiring minority law students and graduates. SEMJF is a popular option with UK Law minority students who are interested in practice opportunities outside of our region. UK Law students also participate in the Patent Law Job Fair in Chicago, the Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair in Atlanta, and the Equal Justice Works Public Interest Law Job Fair in Washington D.C.

Other Services: The Office supplements its on- and off-campus interviewing programs with an extensive job listing service, a resume forwarding service, online resources and legal employer data bases—the national employer data services provided by Westlaw and Lexis, the National Association of Law Placement's national directory of employers, our extensive alumni network, and the Office's own data base of Kentucky law firms. Faculty and alumni use their contacts throughout the country to assist UK Law students interested in leaving our region. Each semester the Office conducts seminars for students on such practical skills as drafting resumes and cover letters, interviewing effectively, networking for job contacts, succeeding in your summer clerkship and marketing yourself to employers. Early in their second semester, first-year students have the opportunity to hone their interviewing skills in mock interviews with alumni volunteers who practice in the Lexington area.
