Policies
NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY
It is the policy of the University of Kentucky College of Law to provide students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment without discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, veteran status, or disability. All employers utilizing the UK College of Law Career Services Office are expected to abide by this policy.
In accordance with the Solomon Amendment, which involves the risk of loss of federal funds, the military is permitted to recruit on our campus despite their discriminatory hiring practices concerning sexual orientation. Neither the UK College of Law nor the American Association of Law Schools (AALS) condones this discrimination by the military.
If a student or graduate believes that there has been a violation of this policy, he/she should report this in writing to the Dean or the Associate Dean of Career Services.
OUTSIDE WORK POLICY
1Ls shall not engage in employment inside or outside of the law school during their first year of law school without permission from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
All students must comply with faculty rules implementing ABA Standard 304. That standard prohibits employment for more than 20 hours per week for any student who is enrolled for more than 12 class hours during the semester. This means that all full time students are prohibited from working more than 20 hours per week.
