General Requirements
Candidates for the degree of Juris Doctor must satisfactorily complete six semesters of full-time law study and 90 semester hours of credit in professional law subjects with a GPA of 2.0 or better, subject to the College's rules on readmission. Normally a student will take 14 to16 credit hours per semester.
The course of study at the College of Law is designed to be completed in six successive semesters of academic residence or, under an accelerated program, in five semesters and two eight-week summer sessions, allowing graduation in December of the student's third year.
Recognizing the relationship between law and other disciplines, the College's academic guidelines permit you to take up to six hours of graduate-level course work approved by the College of Law faculty in other colleges and departments within the University of Kentucky as part of the 90-hour requirement.
All first-year courses are required. The only required courses after the first year are Professional Responsibility and one seminar involving a substantial writing project.
